OFFICE NEWS……. Well I know it has been windy these last few days…… but it just feels like a whirlwind here at school. The time is flying by and everyone is really busy trying to wrap things up! M-Step is FINALLY complete! Hip Hip Hooray! I simply cannot help myself….. so here it comes……. here is the countdown to summer break…….. only 14 school days left!!!
I have already sent an email in regards to important reminders for the end of the school year, but thought it never hurts to mention them more than once. : ) So here they are…..
**Meds MUST be PICKED UP from the Office by the last day of school… Friday, June 9.
**Report cards will be mailed on June 16. Class lists will be posted on the Alward Blog on this date as well.
**NO Memorial Day Program this year due to construction.
**Alward Olympics will take place this year on the last day of school. We are requesting NO visitors this year due to space constraints.
**LAST day of school is FRIDAY, JUNE 9. This will be an EARLY RELEASE at 12:15pm. Please make sure to make arrangements for your students. : )
Last thing…… due to construction and the demolition of the front of the building, Alward will be OFF LIMITS to the public starting Monday, June 12. This INCLUDES the PLAYGROUND! Sorry for the inconvenience.
Please make sure to check all the Upcoming Dates at the end of the Alward Action. There are field trips, camp, field days, etc on the calendar that you should make note of. Please remember to send sack lunches if necessary. : )
One very important bit of information that I would like to get out to parents……. Our FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL will be PRIOR to the Labor Day weekend! The first day of school for students in the 17/18 school year will be TUESDAY, AUGUST 29. Please make note as well, that our Open House dates have changed…… PK/K Open House will be on Wednesday, August 23 and Grades 1-5 Open House will be Thursday, August 24. The Open Houses will begin at 6:30pm.

Hudsonville Robotics Open House……Vex Robotics is a fun and innovative program where teams build robots that compete on the field. If your student is interested in STEM then join us at our open house on Thursday, May 25 at the Freshman Campus cafeteria from 7 – 8 pm. We will be sharing information about the HS/MS VexEDR program and the newly expanded VexIQ elementary school program (Grades 4-6), introducing the new game and we will have our world tournament robots on display. COMMUNITY NEWS………. FARMGIRL FLEA MARKET……. May 19 & 20. Shop 150+ vendors with vintage, antiques, handmade, repurposed, farm fresh picked, PLUS food trucks and live music. Friday 4pm-8pm ($15 entry fee) Early buyer plus admission for Saturday too. Saturday 8am-4pm ($5 entry fee). This will be located at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds .️

KID’S DAY 2017……. Saturday, June 10. Kids! Moms!, Dads! – get your summer off to a great start with an affordable, family-friendly event. Come to the 8th annual Kids Day at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds between 10 am and 2 pm (note time change). Enjoy free stage shows, $.25 games, door prizes, affordable kid-friendly food, and much more. We’ll be there come rain or shine. Kids Day is organized by Jehovah Jireh Ministries, and is supported by several local businesses, churches, and organizations.
HUDSONVILLE ROCKET CHEERLEADING REGISTRATION……. Is your daughter going into 1st-8th grade next fall and interested in cheering? Hudsonville Rocket Cheerleading will be having their registration dates on Monday, June 19th, and Tuesday, August 1st. Both will be from 5-8pm and take place at the Hudsonville High School cafeteria. The registration deadline is Tuesday, August 1st (no late registrations will be accepted). The cost of registration is $75 and includes an end of year banquet and trophy. 1st – 6th-grade girls are required to purchase a shell ($25 new and $15 used) and skirt ($25 new and $15 used). **See website for info about used uniforms.** 7th and 8th-grade girls are required to pay a $10 uniform rental fee. The 1st-6th-grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Youth Football games and the 7th & 8th-grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Club Football games. SUMMER ARTS CAMP AT EVERGREEN MINISTRIES……..Theme is….Under Construction. Elementary Arts Camp: July 31-August 3, 9 am-1 pm; Middle School Arts Camp: July 30-August 2, 6 pm – 9 pm. MEET UP AND EAT UP……… Meet Up and Eat Up is a federally funded program that provides FREE meals and activities to children of all ages. This summer’s program will take place at the Presidential Estates Club House (5075 Presidential Lane, Hudsonville), Monday – Friday, 12:00 – 1:30 pm, from June 19 – August 18. The food portion of this program is provided by Jenison/Hudsonville School Food Service through the National School Lunch Program. Various activities will be provided by local volunteers. A meeting will be held on May 18 at 5:00 p.m. just before the food truck. This will be a time for parents to meet the volunteers and learn more about the program and how they can get involved.
